Something old, something new will be tried on the 1000 yard line on August 31, 2025. The old part is long range benchrest is going to be tried to gauge interest. Long range benchest hasn’t been shot at the Palomino Range for a number of years. The new part will be the use of electronic targets instead of pulled targets.
The rules will be simple and informal. Shooters will be squadded into teams of two, a shooter and scorer. The shooter will shoot unlimited sighters and then a record group in a time limit of 10 minutes.
Groups are scored and measured by the electronic target and then recorded by a scorer assigned to the target. The scorer will then shoot and the previous shooter will score. This procedure will continue until both shooters have shot six 5 shot targets.
The rifle can be anything that is 22 cal. (223 Rem 69 grain) or greater but less than .338 cal, shot single fire i.e. no feeding from a magazine and no muzzle brakes. Other equipment the shooters should bring are a stool to sit on, an electronic pad or other device with an internet browser, clipboard, pencil, front rest and rear rest.
