Long Range High Power Match Description

Palomino Valley Gun Club promotes multiple long range high power shooting disciplines at our 600/1000-yard events:

  • F-Class Rifle (F-O and F-T/R)
  • NRA Match Rifle
  • Military Service Rifle
  • U.S. Palma Rifle
  • Sound suppressors, compensators, and muzzle brakes may be used at long range high power club events, however are prohibited for NRA events and not eligible for classification submission. Please refer to the NRA Official Rule Book – High Power Rifle for all specific event conditions and restrictions.

F-Class Rifle

F-Class competitors may use a rifle in calibers up to a .35, with high-power scope. A front rest or bi-pod may be used in combination with a rear rest such as a filled bag. Competitors will shoot from the prone position at a scored paper target. This discipline is a modification of high power prone shooting, not a form of bench rest shooting.

F-Class Target Rifle (F-T/R): rifles restricted to .308 or .223 caliber may be used with sling, front bi-pod and rear rest, weighing less than 18.19 pounds with all attachments. The rifle must be fired in the prone position from the shoulder.

F-Class Open RIfle (F-O): rifles of any caliber up to a .35 may be used with sling, front and rear rests, weighing less than 22.05 pounds with all attachments. The rifle may be supported by means which provides no positive mechanical method for returning to its point of aim. The use of any table is prohibited. The rifle must be fired in the prone position from the shoulder.

Military Service Rifle

As issued by the U.S. Armed Forces, or the same type and caliber of commercially manufactured rifle, having not less than 4 1/2 pound trigger pull, with standard type stock and standard type leather or web sling. External alterations to the assembled arm will not be allowed. The front and rear sights must be the standard or National Match design. The internal parts of the rifle may be specially fitted and include alterations that will improve the functioning and accuracy of the arm, provided such alterations in no way interfere with the proper functioning of the safety devices as manufactured. The rifle must be so modified as to be incapable of automatic fire without removing, replacing or altering parts. The gas system must be fully operational.

NRA Match Rifle

A center fire rifle with metallic (iron) sights and a magazine capable of holding not less than 5 rounds. A service rifle may be used as a match rifle, having not less than 4 1/2 pound trigger pull. Semi-Automatic M-16 or commercially equivalent rifles configured as NRA Match Rifles are exempt from the 4 1/2 pound trigger weight requirement.

U.S. Palma Rifle

Any service rifle or other rifle with metallic sights chambered for the unmodified .308/7.62 or .223/5.56 NATO cartridge case.
